Inter Miami CF, officially named Club Internacional de Fútbol Miami, is a professional soccer club based in the Miami metropolitan area. Founded by David Beckham, Jorge and José Mas, Marcelo Claure, and Simon Fuller, the team made its debut in Major League Soccer (MLS) in the 2020 season. Boasting a passionate fan base and a state-of-the-art stadium, the club has quickly become a cornerstone in the MLS landscape.

Inter Miami CF was conceived out of David Beckham’s dream. Beckham, the English soccer legend, had in his contract with LA Galaxy (where he played between 2007 and 2012) an option to acquire an MLS expansion team at a reduced franchise fee. In 2013, he announced that he had exercised this option and was keen to establish his team in Miami. The city had previously been home to the Miami Fusion, an MLS team that played from 1997 until 2001, but Beckham’s endeavor was an entirely fresh and ambitious project.

The years following Beckham’s announcement were filled with anticipation and hurdles in equal measure. One of the most significant challenges was finding a suitable home for the team. Numerous potential locations for a soccer-specific stadium were proposed and considered, including sites in the city’s PortMiami area and next to Marlins Park. Finally, after exhaustive efforts, a site in the Miami Freedom Park was chosen as the future home for Inter Miami CF’s stadium. In the interim, while awaiting the completion of this venue, the team would begin their inaugural MLS campaign at the newly renovated Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, rebranded as the DRV PNK Stadium.

In January 2018, the ownership group expanded to include entrepreneurs Jorge and José Mas, alongside Beckham, Marcelo Claure, Masayoshi Son, and Simon Fuller. This collective brought together diverse expertise and a shared passion for soccer and the city of Miami.

In September 2018, Inter Miami CF’s official name, crest, and colors were unveiled, drawing inspiration from the city’s rich heritage and cultural diversity. The herons on the crest, standing back-to-back, represent freedom, and their legs, which together create an ‘M,’ signify Miami. The eclipse, meanwhile, denotes the people’s dedication and passion.

Inter Miami CF officially kicked off in the MLS in the 2020 season. Even as a newcomer, the team brought significant attention, not just because of Beckham’s association but also because of its strategic signings and the promise of adding a unique flair to the league.

Playing in the heart of South Florida, Inter Miami CF is not just a soccer team; it’s a symbol of unity and aspiration. It represents Miami’s diverse tapestry of cultures, all coming together under the banner of sport. The journey of its founding showcases perseverance, a clear vision, and the continuous endeavor to bring world-class soccer to the Magic City.
